Sharing a dashboard
Share a dashboard with people who don't have a dashboardSMASHBOARD account — a client, a manager, an investor — using a read-only link.
Create a link
- Open the dashboard and choose Dashboard ▾ → Share….
- Under Link expiry, choose Never, 7 days, 30 days or 90 days. The default is Never, so pick an expiry if you want one.
- Click Generate, then Copy to copy the link.
- Send the link to anyone. They open it in a browser — no sign-in required.
Once a link exists, the panel shows its expiry date (if it has one). A dashboard has one active link at a time.
What viewers see
- A read-only view of that one dashboard. Viewers can't edit cards or settings and can't see your other dashboards.
- A snapshot, not a live query. The shared page shows each card as it was the last time the dashboard's data was refreshed, with an Updated time on the card. Opening a shared link doesn't contact Google Analytics, so a link can be viewed any number of times without using your Google Analytics quota.
- Viewers don't need a Google account, and they never get access to your Google Analytics property.
Keep it private. Anyone with the link can view the dashboard. Share links only with people you'd show the numbers to, choose an expiry for external recipients, and revoke the link when it's no longer needed.
Revoke a link
Click Revoke link in the Share panel. The link stops working immediately for everyone who has it. To share again, generate a new link — it will have a different URL.
Links with an expiry stop working automatically on that date; the viewer sees "This link has expired."
Send by email — the Share panel includes a field for emailing the link to recipients, but sending from the app isn't available yet. For now, copy the link and send it yourself.
Exporting data
Use Dashboard ▾ → Export… (or ⋯ → Export on any card) to download the current dashboard. The Export panel offers four formats:
| Format | What you get |
|---|---|
| CSV | A single file with a section for each card — the current value, the comparison value, and any daily trend or ranked breakdown the card has. Opens in any spreadsheet app. |
| Excel (XLSX) | A formatted workbook with one sheet per card. |
| PNG image | A screenshot of the dashboard as it appears on screen. |
| An A4 landscape PDF of the dashboard, split across pages if it's tall. |
Files are named after the dashboard and the date.
Exporting from a card's menu opens the same Export panel and exports the whole dashboard — not just that card.
Things to know:
- CSV and Excel export the data already loaded in your browser. They don't query Google Analytics again, so if the numbers look stale, click ↻ Refresh first.
- PNG and PDF capture the visible card grid. For the best result, scroll to the top of the page before exporting.
- Cards that are showing an error or have no data are skipped in the CSV and Excel files.
What gets exported for each card
| Card display | Exported rows |
|---|---|
| Metric / Gauge / Badge | The period value and the comparison-period value |
| Sparkline / Chart | The above plus one row per day of the trend |
| Bar / Table | Each ranked item with its value and its share of the total |
